Overview

Situated just off the Crook Road roundabout on the Kendal bypass, the Gateway overlooks rolling countryside. Refurbished throughout in 2015, high standards have been maintained, offering a modern, rustic, country feel. The central bar has a welcoming presence from the main entrance and offers great access to the extensive seating areas, used for both dining and drinking.  To the right of the pub, there is an external decked terrace which proves popular during the summer months, with further seating in the beer garden below. On the upper floors, there are eight en-suite bedrooms which are advertised on the pub’s website and with external hotel websites such as booking.com. There is also a studio flat which is currently used by the chef manager. A large car park is located at the front of the pub for customers, with further car parking for staff members to the left of the building.

Trade at the Gateway Inn comes from visitors to the Lake District, regulars from the local towns and villages and visitors to the annual festivals and events held locally. There are B&B’S and holiday homes nearby, with tourists choosing to visit the pub throughout the year.  Food is served all-day every day and is home-made, using local suppliers. Letting rooms are popular all year round, as the pub is located in the Lake District National Park and has great access links to Lake Windermere and Kendal town centre. Current opening hours are 12pm – 10pm all week.
